Tar removal

Postby sciroccorich » 06 Mar 2010 21:04

FoOund a great tar remover, used in garages in part washers as a degreaser, but it shift tar and bitumen with ease. Trades as Dissolvit 1000. I managed to scrounge a litre from a local garage.
I will often dry leaving a greasy residue, but warm soapy water wil remove all.

Tardus tar and glue remover works WONDERS on my candy white scirocco. Wipe it on leave it for 5 minutes max and just wipe it again no hard rubbing required at all then just wash the panel as normal. Its for coach works so you would have to go to a body shop supplier for it

A cloth with white spirit takes it off so so easily but you`ll need to put wax back on.
If you do use this not well known method only damp it on and leave it for a few minutes then you`ll see the tar run. Putting WD40 on it as well removes tar.

So now I`m waiting for the onslaught of using this on paintwork.

I find Autoglyms "Intensive Tar and Glue Remover" good BUT only if you pour it into a spray bottle, spray it on and leave for a couple of mins. It's easily available from Halfrauds. I'll never understand why Autoglym don't sell it in a spray bottle.....it' makes the job far far easier.

Did this today using white viniger. It took it off but took alot of work. Im going to try getting the autoglym tar remover and a spray bottle. Someone passing said they used petrol to disolve it. I was thinkng there goes the tar, any dirt, clear coat, paint and the car should someone be smoking near by

Just want to add my voice to the recommendation for Auto Glym intensive tar remover. I have used Auto Glym for years and find the Extra High Gloss protection really enhances the colour and shine of the viper green. It also makes tar removal easy. Just put a little on a soft cloth and rub very gently on the affected areas and it just disappears. Then wash off with clean water. Not usually any need to re-apply the Extra High Gloss stuff again afterwards.

I never seem to get tar spots on my car. I probably clean it too often!

Not so obvious on a black car either. I wash mine weekly they are a pain and are hard to get off.
