Squeaky acceleration

Postby gordon78 » 06 Oct 2009 18:42

I have a 1.4 TSI scirooco with about 5000miles on the clock. It has been making a squeaking noise when accelerating even at low RPM. The garage i took it to said its a known fault and no remedy, but is now driving me mad. Has anyone else had the same problems and managed to get the squeak resolved?

a rough idea of where the squeaking noise is coming from might help!

Thanks - i think its probably something different as more of a squeak coming from up front in the engine that i can only hear when the window is open. The first VW dealer said the fault is something to do with the clutch and only happens when approaching 3000rpm but mines is doing it at 1500-2000 rpm on acceleration. I am taking it to a different VW dealer today for a 2nd opinion on it

I would not accept this dismisive approach by the garage as any sort of reasonable explanation. The car manufacturer has an obligation to ensure that the car is fit for purpose and this includes squeaks/rattles and knocks etc that detract from your enjoyment of the car. I would take it to another dealer for a 2nd opinion and if the same is said I would insist on them investigating the issue and reporting their findings to you and VW UK, after all it is only a squeak and must be coming from a traceable component or components and so should be rectifiable.

There's a thread on this somewhere I'm sure - I have the same problem every now and then but it's not too bad - at first I thought it was the clutch but then noticed I got it if I quickly accelerated with no clutch action - it just usually happens with a quick gear change...

That's of course if it's the same noise - check out these youtube links:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2XVbJmLEuU&feature=player_embedded
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdsaCDVOYUQ&feature=player_embedded

Is that the noise? If yes, it's something specific to the supercharged 1.4's and apparently nothing that harms the engine or transmission - just annoying!

After all that what's the odds this isn't the noise you're talking about! lol

Cheers,
Paulo.

i think the squeak is probs just the supercharger belt as it spools up.
nothing to worry about i don't think

Thanks paulo - the you tube links are exactly the noise my car is making. I had it at another VW dealer who said they can do nothing about it but agrees its unacceptable as its happening every time i accelerate. They have reported it to technical at VW and i have contacted customer care and told them that its not acceptable - i await their response!!

Mine does it as well! Thought i was the only one.

It happens at all engine speeds but only under hard acceleration. At first i thought it may be the pedal but it's not, as the squeak is slightly delayed after pressing the better. Sounds like the noise is coming from the drivers side, slightly in front on me.

Was going to wait until the first service before bothering taking it to the garage.

Mine does it too. If you have a serarch round on the internet it seems to be reckoned that it's the supercharger clutch / belts engaging or diengaging and slipping a little which is where the squeak comes from. It's annoting but apparantly not actually a problem causing any damage, etc.

its fine! supercharger cars do this sometimes... the supercharger is located more towards the drivers side in the engine bay so that would explain that daz3031. everyone stop worrying lol
if you want to hear some nice supercharger sounds, turn the radio off and give it the full beans in 2nd or 3rd at 2800rpm (and for a slightly different version, 3000rpm). very nice! :)

Drove the wifes tiguan TSI today and guess what, it makes the same noise lol

Only does it underacceleration AND when depressing the cluch to change gears - are any of yours DSGs that is making noise? Sounds pretty fine to me, nothing to worry about IMO, must be the complicated piping and clutches in the engine bay. I only noticed itcos I was listening for it, t being a 1.4 TSI.

Just an update. The dealer has replaced the water cooler pump and I drove the car home without the squeak. Happy days with the car again - just hope it lasts

Not aware the "new" water pump/charger clutch has become available yet. Most likely fitted the "new" same part. So keep your fingers crossed.

I can (just) hear a little chirp on mine if i listen carefully, but its only just hit 300 miles!

@Johnjm - my DSG has a nice little "bark" when it changes up under medium acceleration (not tried hard yet) though - almost sounds like a muted anti-lag kicking in (like on WRC cars)...well, it does in my ears. Whichever way, its pretty nice...!
