No way, is an extra 30 bhp gonna turn you into a maniac? Not going to ask personal questions about your age, ncb etc but this does seems a bit mad. Have you tried a few other insurers / comparison sites? Failing that, buy the 140 ps and get a re-map, think a few people have done the same and got more than 170 ps by this route.

Either way I am sure you will love it!

No problems but I am 24 with 4 years NCB, hardly the biggest risk around! There are a few insurance companies that will insure me on the 170TDI but costs are coming back at £1500! Where it would be like £100 or so to change my car on my current policy to the 140TDI. Also if you cancel your policy half way through surely you lose 6 months building up your NCB. I test drove the 140TDI yesterday that had been chipped and it was awesome. I was told that the 140TDI is similar but looses its puff at about 3000rpm. I have tried a few dealers and seems pretty hard to find a 140TDI to test drive so may just go test drive the golf with the same engine just to see.

That's pretty harsh. Still you are 24, probably still have all your hair and a respectable waistline, so you'll get no sympathy from me ;)

On topic .... I used the test drive locator on the VW site to find the model I wanted to test drive. Seemed pretty up to date when I was looking.

4 years NCB is considered max with a lot of insurers anyway so if you canx and move you probably won't really lose anything. Have you tried Chris Knott on here?

Ordered a Sumatra 2.0 TDI GT 140PS with Truffle Leather, Parking Sensors, Electric Mirrors and for £35 added the Flat tyre thing. Got about 7% off the list price. :D

Was nervous ordering the Sumatra as I hadn't seen it in the flesh. I looked on Autotrader and the nearest to me was 130 miles away and called like 10 dealers and had no luck. However I was so lucky to go to the showroom when I did to order as they just had someone new Scirocco delivered within the minute and just happened to be Sumatra and looked gorgeous. Did have the cloth interior so had to imagine truffle leather in there but reckon it should go well.
