VW PRESS RELEASE

SCIROCCO GT TDI 170PS COMBINES PERFORMANCE, STYLE AND ECONOMY

The new performance diesel variant of the Scirocco GT equipped with a 2.0-litre TDI 170PS engine is now available to order. Combining effortless acceleration, made possible by 258 lbs ft of torque delivered from 1,750 rpm, and the ability to return 53.3 mpg on the combined cycle, the new model mixes style, economy and sharp dynamics.

The refined and powerful 2.0-litre common rail TDI engine develops 170 PS at 4,200 rpm and is available linked to either a six-speed manual or six-speed DSG gearbox. Both gearboxes accelerate the Scirocco to 62 mph from a standstill in 8.1 seconds and on to a top speed of 138 mph (DSG: 136), while emitting just 139 g/km (DSG: 147) of CO2.

The latest addition to the Scirocco range is available linked exclusively to the GT trim level and offers a comprehensive list of standard equipment including a six-CD autochanger, rain and dusk sensor, multifunction computer and 2Zone air conditioning. In terms of safety, ABS, ESP (Electronic Stabilisation Programme) and six airbags are all standard.

For the first time new 19-inch ‘Lugano’ alloy wheels are available as an option.

As with all models in the Scirocco range, the new GT 2.0-litre TDI 170PS is fitted with Adaptive Chassis Control (ACC) operating through pneumatic valves in the damper units. The system allows the driver to select from normal, comfort or sport modes to define the desired suspension and steering response settings for the conditions.

Scirocco GT 2.0-litre TDI 170PS 6spd manual: £21,755.00
Scirocco GT 2.0-litre TDI 170PS 6spd DSG: £23,060.00

News is from their press site which you need a log-in to access but should be in the general press by now.

I have just noticed that the 140 PS diesel and the 170PS diesel both have the same CO2 emissions of 139, is this correct? I would have thought the 170PS engine would be slightly higher?

Does any know what are the differences between the 140 and 170 in terms of the engines themselves. Is the 170 just a 140 which has been remapped by VW. Th reason for all the questions is I have a 140 on order for the past 6 weeks and I am wonder should I try and change the order or just get an after market engine map.

Think I saw somewhere that the 140 had 134 in CO2 emissions - dunno about the engine differences, kinda wondering about that myself....anyone?

I am no mechanic but when the a3 came out with the unit it was essentially the same but had flashier Piezo [?] injection..since then I know they have altered back to common rail which is the route bmw have took [and they are leading i am afraid to say]. I think if you go for the 170 you can then go even higher with a remap obviously because the unit is amended for slightly higher performance. VAG have just let slip they are working on a twin turbo version to get up to 200bhp...only car mentioned though is the next a3 [approx 18 months time]...i think that really would be the true diesel choice for a Scirocco ;)
