Does anyone know if these can be programmed to fold on locking and unfold on unlocking? It seems to me to be a logical thing rather than having to remember to turn the switch before opening the door IMO!

Nope. I had hoped that as well. You have to do it manually.

There was a company that did a plug and play circuit board that allowed this on a BMW mini. Surely there must be someone out there that can do this on VAG cars. Kufatec maybe?

For me VAG have never really "done" mirrors. The switch is too big, usually in the wrong position and the ergonomics are nowhere near as good as many other manufacturers. I have experienced Vauxhall, Peugeot and BMW in the fairly recent past and all were better. The peugeot did have auto folding mirrors

Maybe its because different customers want differnt functions.
I was toying with ordering folding mirrors on mine - its a bit tight down my drive with a drain pipe in the way. If the mirrors opened when I unlocked the car then this would be a pain in my case as I'd have to fold them in again while I backed out of the drive and then fold them out again afterwards.
