Hi

picked up my car today and have been playing around with the nav system, mainly with the car parked on my drive. Thing is when i put in a random destonation, lets say -London and the press start the system keeps displaying a message similar to "unable to reccoment a route to this destination".

I am sure a 1200 quid nav system could calculate a route from durham to london? thing is, am i being thick or is it not working correctly? Ther gps certainly seems to be working as my position moves when i drive around??

I think it's because it wants a more precise location. I know that the system will nav to a town centre but it probably doesn't consider London as having one in particular!

It should work fine if you go down to road/postcode level.

sounds like you need to load the disc, or someone's forgotten to load one. It does that sort of thing if you don't.
i am told the disc is loaded??? about 14 gb of the hard drive is already full. i think that must be the maps?

right i still cant get the bloody thing to direct me! the data is there so for example if i sit on my drive and use points of interest to select "THE STADIUM OF LIGHT" which is about 20 miles away it appears on the map. However when i press the route button the system still says "THERE ARE NO ROUTE RECCOMENDATIONS FOR THIS DESTINATION"

Why is it doing this? it clearly knows where it is??

It's a very smart SatNav, and obviously doesn't understand why anyone would want to go and watch Sunderland play ;)

The only thing I can think of is its had an old disc loaded into it, maybe a newer version will help. Beyond that its a workshop job, and probably a salesman borrowing it for a weekend to find out if they can find the fault.

Sorry, the one I've got in our demonstrator works fine and all the others I've had have always been fine, I'm sure its something to do with disc loading.

LOL. So a Salesman would be better at finding a fault than a Master Tech ???? Now I'm worried

I know its funny but our demos have em all the time so we are far more likely to see if something is different to the others than the master tech who has never used it. Had this recently with ipods sometimes its the most simple solution that can get a result.

Ok car went into dealers to have new nav fitted and data installed, My dad dropped it off and picked it up for me as he works down the road. Well i got my car back this evening and is the nav working? NO

It appears all the dealer has done is loaded and supplied me with a data DVD, they have not fitted the new unit. This appears to have had some effect in that the HDD now seems to be working again. The nav however still wont give me directions.

When i ask it to calculate a route it sayd "NO ROUTE RECCOMENDATIONS ARE AVAILABLE FOR THIS DESTINATION" and when i press the "i" button go get it to repeat it says "THE NAVIGATION SYSTEM IS INACTIVE"

Well i rang the stealers to discuss the issue and was told a new unit was not fitted as there was no fault (the opposite to what i was told last week) and that the unit had been tested and worked fine. I asked if they had actually driven the car and tried to get directions to a destination i was told "probably not". Now by the time i rang up all of the service staff had gone home and i couldnt speak to the actuall person who did the work (or lack thereof). I await a call back tomorrow!

Now this is p155ing me off a bit as when i visited the stealer last week i was told it definetly needed a new unit, now someone has decided it doesnt, but i am still left witha £1200 option that doesnt bloody work !!!!!! arrrrgggghhhhhhh
