I've noticed that I get a bit of a rasping noise round about 2300 - 2500 rpm, under acceleration. As the revs rise and reach about 2300rpm, it begins to rasp, and then as it passes about 2500 rpm, it dies away. As it goes through the gears, and the revs drop back down into this range, it begins again. Does anyone else hear this?
I'm assuming it is the turbo charger spinning up, but as I've never had a turbocharged car before, I just want to check this is nothing that needs checking out.
I think you are hearing the exhaust, mine is getting louder the more miles I put on. A turbo whistles ...if you get in a confined space wind the window down and you will here the turbo whistle as you accelerate it doesnt rasp.
Hi
I'm starting to heard the same rasp coming from the engine bay at the same RPM range.
I only noticed it two days ago when I had the radio switched off while driving.
I can clearly heard the exhaust but the rasp seems to be coming from the engine bay on the drivers side.
I am driving the 2.0 TSI petrol, have you the same engine?
Yep, I 've got the 2.0 TSI as well. I'm glad I'm not on my own. I too thought it sounds like its coming from the engine bay, rather than the exhaust. But I suppose it could be the exhaust manifold?
yep mine does it to, what i find is that when you try and accelerate in a high gear at low revs, its almost a cacal of a rasp, but i think that just means i should not change until the revs are higher
