I wonder if factory-fitted sat nav (£1200 on the Scirocco) is worth maybe 10 times the cost of a portable unit that does the same job? I know a factory-fitted unit looks neat but on the other hand you can move a portable unit between vehicles.
Also, what has happened to the road atlas; can't people read maps any more?

I wouldnt go anywere without sat nav these days.

As much as it has made life easier has anyone else noticed peoples with Tom Tom's etc. place them in the middle of the windscreen? I saw a woman the other day who had it mounted literally in front of her face.!

If you had a crack in your windscreen which was in your view it would be illegal. How is this not?

As if life wasnt easy enough without maps, moving their head now appears to be too much trouble.

Its not worth £1200 + vat. I always buy cars (usulally second hand) with nav. Just a strange obssetion I have!

Should be more like £500, even then it would be on the expensive side.

I have it. It's far too dear but it is very nice. Specially with directions coming up on the DIS. Also the real time route changes making use of the RDS traffic updates are very clever indeed.
